I heard the hens upset in the middle of the night. I went out with my dog, and a flashlight, and was wondering what upset them. My dog and I walked around the coop, and didn't see any tracks. Then I thought the snow must have slid off the roof. This morning when I looked it seemed like that is what happened.
It is upsetting to have to go out in the dark to see what the chickens are upset about.

It looks like you have a lot more snow in that picture than I generally experience! It's never nice to have to check on things in the dark but having a dog does make it easier. I've brought my dog out with me before when I opened the door to go out and something just felt very off.

When the snow slides off my coop during the day, my chickens get very startled. I've seen a few of them bolt when it happens. I'm not sure if they get startled when it happens overnight. There usually isn't enough snow here for that to be a frequent issue at night, because it's most often the warmth from the sun that makes the snow melt and start to slide.
