There is a winter storm watch in my area for tomorrow. Do you let chickens out of the hen house when there is a storm? Their house does not really have any light in there and their food and water are outside in their run. Are they better off just staying in the house until the storm dies down, even if that means they are not out until 3 in the afternoon?

You can keep the door open a just for light but they probably won't go out but they can stay inside if they have to.

We got a lot of unexpected snow in February last year (in Arkansas) and our chickens live in a tractor (enclosed coop area on top). I opened the coop door for them and let them choose. They pretty much stayed up top the whole time so I moved their food up there. I made the mistake of putting their water in with them (don’t do that if you have a small space). We had a little frostbite happen but they fully recovered and didn’t lose any of their combs/wattles.

No windows?
Is the run protected from the wind and snow?

In cold climates it's good to have lots of space and windows in the coop,
for those nasty frigid and/or blizzard days.
My run is not protected, some really bad days, I don't even bother opening the pop door.

My run is fairly protected and covered soI think they should be alright.

No windows at all. If a day ever comes when I decide to get another coop, I will remember this.
