Hello everyone, we are just starting out with our chicken raising experience. As in, the chicks will be arriving at the post office tomorrow!!! We moved to a semi-rural neighborhood a little less than 2 years ago and are finally to the point where we feel like we're ready to take the plunge. We ended up ordering through Tractor Supply an all female combo rare/standard set of 10. My husband and I both lost sleep the night we decided to order them ... big step. We are mostly excited about having farm fresh eggs but also look forward to the entertainment aspect of watching them roam and play. Currently my husband keeps himself busy around the property with outdoor and garage projects, he's going to start building the chicken run this weekend. We are both working parents working slightly different hours so I feel now is the best time in our careers to get started with chicks. We have also talked about building bat boxes and beekeeping, chickens first!!! In addition to the incoming chicks, we have a pair of bonded indoor male rabbits. We plan to try to let them in the coop on nice days to socialize and be safe from hawks, etc. We also have a 14 year old dog dog that spends most of his time sleeping. Since moving here and tinkering with the idea of chickens, I have come across BYC many times, but my neighbor recently mentioned this site again and so here we are. So excited to be joining today.
