Our "ladies" are now 18 days old and are growing like..... well chickens!! They are really feathering out and changing by the hour.

Because my friends all know I have gone down the "road of insanity" with my chickens, it seems that it's just okay to go to the ranch supply and grab a chicken and do a drive by chicking at my house at 8:30 pm.... so you might note that there is now 6 chicks and that one of them is some what smaller... deep sigh......it is a week younger.

Of course it was a" straight something... or whatever that is" my kind friend happily remarks.
We won't go into that she thinks this isn't really PC to be remarking on these chicks life styles.

I kindly remarked that we aren't allowed boy chicks and that if it indeed turns out to be a boy that it can't live here. She shrugged this off and just thinks its the cutest thing.

I am pretty sure it is a br .

The babies are still in the office, we are slowly weaning them of heat. I was wondering if on our nice hot days in the upper 80's if it would be okay to take them out in a little portable pen to play for a few minutes, of course I would stay there with them?

I also have a question on their feed. We started them on medicated chick feed, which is an all veggie, no meat product ( this is really important to me) . I am now planning on switching them to a non- medicated product Chick I will give them until we switch to layer pellets. I also have sprinkled some chick grit on their food. They have been offered spinach, dandelion leaves from a not toxic source. :) tomatoes and corn on the cob. They show some interest but they don't show as much enthusiasm as I would like. The dandelion was the biggest hit. I plan on getting meal worms today and see if those will spark their interest.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The one in the pics does look like a BR. As far as treats they will get better with age. Make sure no green leaves on the tomato tho, they are toxic to the birds. My kids didn't get real interested in treats until about 8 weeks old. Now at 16 weeks average (some older, some younger) they almost expect treats when I come outside. Haha
