I just caught my guineas munching on the onion tops. I am so mad! The first time we planted onions in Jan they, too, got demolished. But..we blamed it on the chickens. We went ahead and locked everything up and replanted, but here recently I let the guineas back out. IT's been about a week and they've just discovered the onions. I sure hate to lock them back up, but don't want to lose my crop. Any suggestions?

I was told that guineas wouldn't eat vegetable plants, we got them for bug control. They didn't touch the broccoli or spinach, but it could be just a matter of time.
Thanks

Yep! I fence my garden in and let the chickens, ducks and guinea's roam. Much better bug control when they can get around all sides of the veggie garden. I have to fence the garden in because of rabbits anyway.

Actually, they are picky and won't eat too many things. I'd fence. I love the tick and snake control. I'm down the road from you in Barnhart. I used to have baby rattlers but not since I got my guinea's 5 yrs ago.

tcmstalcup- wow you really are close. That's hard to come by when you live in West Texas isn't it?
I may try the fencing, I'm wondering if just placing chicken wire or deer netting over the rows would work okay. Our garden is huge, about half an acre so it will take a lot of work. But maybe I'll just cover the onions since that's all they've really been interested in.
Luckily the chickens haven't discovered it yet!

My Guineas haven't touched the onions we have growing. Hope they don't!!
