I am new to chicken raising, and Today i ran across an article showing what to feed and more importantly what NOT to feed my chicks.
I bought 4 chicks ( golden comets) from TSC, 4 weeks ago. and they are now full on , working on getting real feathers and all. Gettingbigger overnight ,it seems. and now i saw I made a BOO BOO when it comes to feed. I have fed ( only a tiny amount) of raw potato skins.I strewn about in the open air run). EECK , turns out this is NOT a good food to give. it has only happened one time , how badly did i just hurt my chicks? without knowing? they seem fine , and still happy flapping their new found "wings" and running about in the open sunnyrun.

You didn't hurt them.
They're fine.
Give them a big clump of sod from their future run area and they've have a blast with it after they stop staring at the alien you just dropped in the brooder.
It's really best to just keep them on a complete diet and keep the treats to a bare minimum. I've always fermented my feed from day one. I can go out to the pen with a cup of their dry, unfermented feed and toss it around and they come a running for this great treat. You don't have to feed them "treats".
I do give mine squash guts (they like the seeds), apple cores and things like that and I have a jar of raisins out in the coop I use to bribe my rooster into not being a total jackass. He shares the raisins with the girls. I have 21 (had 27) chickens and that jar of raisins has lasted over a month. Just to give you an idea of how little treats you should be giving them.

Thanks so much for your wisdom. this was my only unwise step so far , and the "treats " i give them are far and few because they still are " chicks" in my eye,s . thank so much for adding to my experience of chicken raising .
