I am sooooo excited that I get my silkie. The hubby said we can drive 2 hours to the breeder!!! The only thing is that they are still babies and I really want a hen and his are not sexed. I know that it is nearly impossible but is there any way to tell a silkie hen from a rooster when they are just a few days old??? I really want this baby but don't need another rooster! Thanks y'all

We're getting some show quality silkie chicks on Tuesday, and the farm we're getting ours from are hard core silkie folks, and they told me that its impossible to sex them as chicks. I've never owned one before, these are for my 14 yr old daughter.... I can honestly say, that I probally could'nt sex an adult silkie unless it crowed!

I think I got lucky in sexing my silkies. I arrived at the hatchery the morning after they hatched and did some wing sexing. So far-- no crowing. I'm going to use them for broodies for some show quality eggs I ordered. Here's hoping none of my silkies start crowing!

Congratulations on your silkies.. do you mind if I ask where you are getting the show quality silkies from?

Thanks!

How do you do wing sexing? I have been wanting a silkie but I can't have another rooster. So I don't want to miss out on my silkie opportunity!! I will be going to the hatchery to look and would love any way to sex them!! Thanx
