Well after researching basically this whole winter about quail I think im ready for them so thats why im getting a pair of jumbo brwn coturnix this sunday!I cant wait,I have a nice rabbit hutch set up for them and I have game bird feed for them too.Just one question though.....im also getting a silkie there too and once she goes broody you think I could slip some quail eggs under her and she will hatch em or not?

She will surely crush them.Ed Ayotte lives in Peperrell,Ma,do you know him?He use to raise and breed all kinds of quail, pheasants and partridges. He doesn't raise any birds anymore.

I've had a lot of people buy my quail eggs and attempt to get a bantam to incubate them. In my experience bantams find the eggs a bit small to turn effectively, also they often break them and they find the babies if they do hatch them difficult to manage. They tend to get away and get cold. If you have no other way to incubate you might consider it but be prepared for heavy losses. If any did hatch I would take them and put them in a brooder.
