My guess is that she got herself tangled up in something, panicked, and in her struggle to get out of whatever it was (which she did), she hurt her neck. I found her lying on the floor of the youngster coop, not moving. When I moved her, she struggled against me, and she can move her wings and feet, but her neck is floppy.

She doesn't vocalize as if moving her hurts her, but she also doesn't walk to a new location, she kind of crawls or flops. She has some control over her body, so the spinal cord isn't severed, but she's obviously in distress.

Anybody seen this kind of thing before, and is it possibly recoverable? I'd hate to put her down if she can be saved, and I'd hate to leave her in pain if she's not going to get better. Our usual vet does not do chickens, so I'm at kind of a loss.

We had to put a 2 week old chick down tonight...it's super hot in Ga this week and I'm almost sure this baby wasn't drinking enough. This chick was being raised along with oneore by a broody. I noticed the chick lethargic acting yesterday and panting. I gave it se water I'm an eye dropper and cooled it off with se cool water. This morning it seemed better, but still wobbling around and the neck looked floppy. It peeped loudly but had a very floppy neck. Tonight the chic was on it's back peeping loud and looking really weak. As I went to stand upright, the hen stepped on he chick. After 2 hours of watching this baby suffer, I had my husband put it down.

Well, she wasn't making progress, so we put her down today. She was a pretty bird, but there was no good life for her like she was...
