I was working in the kitchen this afternoon when I heard a loud quack that sounded alarming. By the time I got the door open Pebbles and Beatrice were quickly heading for the pen and Benedict was right behind them, with all three looking sideways and up. I immediately scanned the area and there, up in the Douglas fir tree on the edge of the yard sat a hawk. It didn't look as large as a red tail, but the kids sure didn't waste any time heading home to safey. I closed them inside and when I looked back the hawk was gone. I just so appreciated the alertness of these creatures: they sure are aware at all times of their total surroundings and know exactly where to head for protection. I never knew how intelligent ducks can be and how much personality they have. Just luv um
