I went to TSC after work last week, and picked up a bag of Dumor grower because it's pelletized and the other feed I was using is not. With 30+ teenage chicks I can't afford any waste!

Well, I just checked out and was gonna carry my feed out. If I just get one bag I usually just carry it myself, although I'm definitely not above asking for an employee to help me if I don't feel like hefting it myself...
Anyway, this day I was in the carrying mood, but some random customer walked in the door as I was getting my receipt - grabbed the bag off my shoulder and insisted on carrying it out for me!!!!!!!!!!

I was kinda, shocked, and uh, had to refrain from making smart-butt comments and just thank him for the help. What made it even funnier was that his significant other was coming in the door as he was going back out and she was like "What are you doing??" and he said "Moonlighting"
and then I was really not sure what to say

I just told him to throw it in the back of my truck, and thanks!

I have to say it was the strangest, and funniest thing that has happened to me in a while

From the viewpoint of an old guy who has been known to do this for others, I see nothing strange about this. I was raised with the knowledge that it is polite to offer help to others. I find it sad that in today's world this is generally regarded as "odd." I tend to categorize this with the people who walk through a door that has been opened for them with no acknowledgement.

Before my DH got really ill (doing much better!!! Got great reports the past week!! Praise God) he would stop along the road and help anyone who was broke down, he helped old ladies/men with chores or helped them find stuff in the big stores . . .its just a wonderful thing to do. I do it too, but mine is more smaller things, and I will remind everyone since tomorrow is mother's day and father's day is coming up, remember the old people around. . .and if you know they are totally alone send them a card and just sort of remind them someone cares. That will do more good for them than anything, and all it costs is a DG card and a stamp!!!!

Yes, it is sad and "cautious" would be my feeling. I would be thinking,, Is he going to 'kid-nap me?" It is sad in todays world that a lot of us think that way.

But it still comforting to know that there are still people out there wanting and willing to help a stranger. As I'm one of those that like to help too. I like that commercial (bank/ insurance?) where it is a chain reaction of people helping others and a stranger witnessing it and then helps another stranger.

Politeness is catching! Have you noticed that if you let another driver merge at an intersection, the person in back of you is likely to do the same thing? Henry'schickens, I believe in paying it forward as in that commercial.

I feel like if I do something nice for someone maybe they will pay it forward and the world will one day be a better place

That was nice of him though! Once I was in such a hurry I grabbed the 25lb bag of dog food instead of the 10lb took it all the way up to the reg and then only had the $20 my SO had given me in the car. The bag cost like $24--$28.. something like that and the guy behind me was like that bag sure is heavy I will pay the difference so you dont have to walk back there. I did NOT like the idea, I hate when people pay for my stuff. I just told him thank you but please dont worry about it, grabbed the bag, and swapped them out.
I just feel like that is not something I could pay forward because every cent around here is usually budgeted
