Let me begin by saying thanks to all the people who make BYC possible. My story begins like many with the dream of fresh eggs. I figured I would start withe 3 chicks that I would buy as day olds so I searched craigslist in my area. After weeks of looking my eye caught an ad for Jersey Giants which I promptly answered and viola 3 baby chicks appeared. After raising these chicks in the house for 7wks ( I never knew a small animal could poop SO much) they finally found their way into what was refered to as a chicken mansion. The chicken mansion as my dw calls it started off as a simple tractor but turned out to be a $200 10x4 A frame run/coop monster that I can only turn in a circle because it is too heavy to move (lesson learned lighter is better). They continued to thrive and turned out to be 2 big beautiful roos and 1 stubborn to lay hen (as of today still no egg). Me being terribly impatient (I am a man after all) I decided to search for started pullet and found a hatchery within 30 miles of my location thus 3 gold comets joined the flock. Within days these egg laying machines bring me 3 beautiful eggs/slices of heaven a day and have continued to do so since. All was well when I decided that if I just had 4 more I could have enough eggs to consume and some extra to sell to offset feed cost. So I fly into action and go to buy just 4 more comet but when I arrived at the hatchery I inquire about started Barred Rocks (that I think are just gorgeous) to my surprise he had 200 left over so I just had to have a couple. I arrived home with my 4 that magically turned into 6 hens (thats my story and I'm sticking to it) and lovingly placed them into one of the two 10x10 dog pens that I have dubbed "Blue Farm". As the wife glares at me I remind her "Dear they are just chickens and they will pay for themselves besides I have already bribed the neighbors." Once again all is well on "Blue Farm" and as for the new arrivals only time will tell if my plan will work or if maybe I need just a few more.................
