Hi all!

This is just a social post more or less none of my social circle has livestock so none of them understand so figured I'd post here. I have chicks that some are 4 weeks old and some are 5 weeks old come Monday. We've been weaning off heat all week and they've been spending all day out in the coop/run the last couple days our highs are in the 40s during the day lows are in the 20s at night. Tonight is their first night in the coop it's 37° in there and I put my seed warming mats out there inside a little huddle box for them and it seems to be giving it enough ambient heat they're all piled in the box on it 😭 I KNOW they are fine I'm just one of those animal people that wants them all to have Royal Treatment LOL

Gonna make them a little warm oatmeal in the morning as a warm up treat since it will get down to the 20s tonight.

Curious to see how well I sleep or if I keep checking the camera out there or end up awake at the crack of dawn to go check on them 😂

However I will say I am so excited to clean the room that the brooder is in this weekend it's been so dusty it's normally my art studio, all my canvases and my printer for my Etsy page orders etc are all covered in a huge thick layer of dust haha and I cleaned my upstairs bathroom tonight where I've been dumping all of their gross poultry cell water and shavings water etc so I've claimed my master bathroom back already LOL and the cats are excited to have access to the room again as well lol

Anyway I'm rambling I know they'll be fine haha this is absolutely harder on me than it is on them

Oh my goodness, the first night my first group spent in the coop, I was a nervous wreck! We put them in early afternoon, but we had a family dinner to go to. I couldn't enjoy any of that event, lol. As soon as we got home, I got a flashlight and trekked down to the coop (it isn't exactly near the house). They were sleeping and fine and looked at me quite annoyed

I got up before the sun the next morning, got my flashlight, and down I went. Again, sleeping and content. But it took me a good week before I was able to relax and not go check on them every night.

The good news is that I've integrated 2 more groups into the coop since, and I've been way more relaxed about it. So it does get easier!

Thank you so much that's really nice to hear that I'm not alone and being ridiculous!!! I know it's silly, if they were fully feathered and it wasn't so cold I would feel a lot better. It was 70 this week last year of course and below freezing this year haha I brought them out some hot oatmeal with strawberries this morning and they were thrilled about it everybody's a little puffed up you can tell they're a little chilly but hopefully as it gets more sunny today it warms up a bit.

Not me over here with THREE cameras set up to check on the chicks I have brooding out in the coop. Nope. Not me. Not checking the cameras every few minutes. Nope nope nope.

Mine like to sunbathe in the sunlight from their window to warm up. I think it’s cutest thing ever. Pic brought to you by me obsessively checking cameras.

Haha! I have a camera set up out there as well and I kept checking it last night and I'm like they literally haven't moved they're in their little huddle box just go to sleep! LOL I know they handle cold a lot better than we do

We had a couple nights in the 30s and one in the 20s this week. I was really worried too. My youngest in the coop are 6 weeks and they are basically fully feathered. They did fine, of course. But it's very hard not to worry!

I bet they did love that oatmeal!
