Hi! I have a barred rock who has been isolated because she was picked in for wry neck- she goes weeks where she won’t lay but she is currently laying. Her wry neck was very bad but she has been seemingly better these past few days and she has laid an egg every day. Yesterday she didn’t but this morning there was a normal egg with her, and just now I found a soft boggy egg. She never produces two in a day. It is difficult to assess her because since she was picked on and we have been treating her for the wry neck she always acts funny (sleeps with a dangling neck, sleeps on her head, sometimes can’t control her neck) however she has been acting so normal lately. When we found the soft shell egg we found her standing with her head hung and almost rocking back and forth- we picked her up and syringed her poultry cell. By the time I was leaving her she was drinking her water and eating (put oyster shell in) is this a normal thing? I have never encountered a soft shell egg. Nothing has changed with her recently except I did see one singular bloody poop and I did put corid in her water because I got nervous. Could this have depleted her and set her back?

She should get some human calcium citrate with vitamin D daily given orally for 7 days. That may help her lay a harder shell. She may be having early symptoms of a reproductive disorder. It sounds like she has wry neck, a neurological symptom. Wry neck can be from head injury, vitamin E or B1 thiamine deficiency, or sometimes a symptom of diseases that affect the brain. It is treated with vitamin E 400 IU daily and a small amount 1/4 tablet of human vitamin B complex, with a small amount of scrambled egg for selenium. I would give that for a couple of weeks. Here is a good buy on calcium:
