I had two eggs on my waterer this morning. One was hard shelled and this one was soft. I have 3 pulleys that sleep on the water, the one has been laying for almost a week, the other two haven't. One is a black sex linked (brown egg) one is a white leghorn (white egg) ... Who does this one above belong to?

ETA- I think it is brown, but not sure if the insides make all eggs look that way.
Does anyone have pics of soft shelled eggs that are white or brown (and you know for sure)?

It's not abnormal for soft shell eggs or no shell eggs with just the membrane in the first few weeks of laying. I had to get up early as heck to open up the coop and see who was laying the shelless egg. She woul lay them on the roost and then they would hit the poop board! Scared me but I was reassured by others and looked up this condition and it's normal in te beginning. If you get up really early maybe you can see which one is sitting under the egg?

Oh and that's a brown egg. Soft shell will be the color of what is should be and membranes only egg looks like a chicken water balloon!

I am guessing it is the BSL then. Is there any chance that the laying hen is laying more than one egg at times? This is the second time that a normal egg has been accompanied by a abnormal egg. The last time it looks like it was just the membrane, but that was Sunday.

I am not sure I bet it can happen, but the cycle takes so many hours I forget the exact hours I think 23 so if it's unfinished I guess it could be popped out too early? Either way just make sure you have oyster shell for them for calcium and maybe yogurt a few times a week. I give my girls yogurt three times a week wih the good bacteria and oyster shell is always available if they need it. I had the membrane issue for a week or so
