This year I'm going to be starting my veggie garden (zone 5a) from seeds and read up over the winter on soil blockers.

Does anyone have any experience working with them? What soil mixture do you use? How wet does the soil have to be...just wet enough to stay together?

How do you water them? Is misting them every few hours ok (i work from home so this is do-able)?

Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Sorry but I just now saw this. I used the soil blocker years ago and even still have the thing.

Best to use a soil mix that has plenty peat in it. I used potting soil and it fell apart too easy. Have it just a tiny bit more moist than "just sticking together." You can experiment by making some and playing with them a while before actually using them for seeds.

Misting or watering from the bottom is the best way to keep them moist. Just don't EVER let them get too dry. They can be tricky. I'd use mine but I just haven't been gardening the last 15 years. I'm getting back into it now though and just found my soil blocker a couple weeks ago when cleaning out yet another part of the garage.
