Some help with Cygnet the Chicken

Cygnus has got to be a cockerel, then, with that much comb/wattle development at that age. Sometimes it takes quite a while for male hackle and saddle feathers to come in. It's a cute chickie!

I would advise getting pullets the same age or younger for him rather than getting fully grown hens. It will make it much easier for him, especially if the pullets you choose are of larger breeds.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the replies. This is great advice, I'll take it to heart and look for some chicks of a bigger breed. We were initially gonna get smaller girls, but there's so many farmers in my area that there's bound to be some bigger breeds of the same age.

Bigger breeds lay bigger eggs and often more of them. I wouldn't go too big, though. Leghorn size or maybe Australorps, but not large Cochins or Brahmas. He looks pretty small so far.

I'm actually in Australia. Someone mentioned they might be Silkie Australorp cross.
Then he’s probably not part araucana because the araucanas in America are rumpless but in Australia and the U.K. they aren’t. Even tailed breeds will occasionally throw a rumpless chick, like how rosecomb breeds will sometimes throw a single comb chick.
