As you all know, I am Pekin Hen( Annette Minny). I just wanted to post a topic for all my BYC friends so that all of you can know me and my chickens better!
We are in South Africa, Free-state, Harrismith. My family is my mom, dad, 2 uncle's, 1 aunt, 2 grandma's, 1 grandpa, me( turning 14 in March, next year) and of coarse my 3 sisters( triplets, 10 years old).
I have a flock of 4 white chocin bantams, 3 buff chocin bantams, 7 golden partridge chocin bantams and last but not least my 4 mallard ducks( 2 female's, 2 male's).

Well, here in SA it's really not easy, shure it's nice for vacation or tour but not for staying. SA is one of the most dangerest places in the world! Crime is really getting out of control here, but further it is great to see the wildlife and nature. Once i held a white lion cub, played with a normal lion cub and pet a BIG grown up cheetah! Trust me that's really cool.

Annette.

Wishing you peace at Christmas time Annette

I really enjoy hearing about people that live in different countries. I have always loved Africa since i read the Joy Adamson books when I was younger. To have such unique and beautiful animals in their own habitat. The closest we have gotten to most wild animals are in the zoo. I am sorry to hear about the crime rate tho. Welcome to the boards.

Hello and welcome!

I've read a book about fossil hunting in the Karoo which was really interesting and I've always wanted to go there...

Sorry about the crime rate...guess you're safer with the hyenas...

Welcome - Thanks for shareing,

by a vet.
Both were rescues from people who did not know what they were geting involved in.
We took them from plain small wire pens to a much bigger
area that more resembled natural conditions.

My dad taught us to leave the wild life alone except
when it had already been effected in a neg way by humans then it was our responsibility to help put things right.

Hello from Wisconsin Pekin Hen.

Sounds like you have a nice family. Do you all live together? Have you always lived in South Africa?
I'm sorry for the danger that you deal with.......so nice that you have family to give you a nice home base.

We have 5 children and 5 grand children. Our youngest child will graduate from high school in the spring. We have one daughter that lives in Colorado. Colorado is many many miles away from Wisconsin. the rest of our family within a twenty mile radius.....close enough to visit.

I have 16 hens and two roosters.Since the snow they won't even step foot outside their coop!! They keep us and a few other families well supplied with eggs.

Take Care. Nice to learn about you.
