Something hanging out of hens vent PICS

I was doing my nightly check on the chickens and I noticed that my 11 and a half month old Cochin hen was hiding away in a nest box. At first I thought she was just laying her egg, but then I noticed something really weird coming out of her vent. I have no clue what it is but I am hoping someone can help me with her. Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

PS-Her butt was already pecked but I don't think this has anything to do with that.

There are pine shavings on whatever it is but it is like a off-white inch long thick thing hanging out of her vent.

Looks like a soft shelled egg didn't make it all the way out before it broke open? I'm not sure what you could do for her, maybe give her a good soak in the tub and see if she pushes the rest of it out of there. Gosh i wish i had more knowledge to help you

THIS JUST HAPPENED TO ME THIS WEEK!! Gently pull it out. In case that it was a shelled egg, I would coat my finger (with VERY short fingernails) with vaseline, and see if there are any eggshell fragments inside. It's really gross, but it could save your girl's life. Good luck!

Okay, you all were right!! It was a soft-shelled egg. I gently pulled it out a little, but then she pushed it out all the way! After that I did what FrizzleFreak said and checked her vent for any egg pieces. There weren't any. I then soaked her in warm water and she is currently relaxing inside. The only weird thing I noticed (this was before she pushed it out) when I checked on her this morning was a weird dropping. I am probably just over-stressing but can someone tell me if this is normal?

It definitely would not hurt to get her on some dry powder probiotics right away. I wouldn't give her antibiotics. She needs to fight off any infections that may develop on her own until she lays a few eggs and she needs the calcium and magnesium very badly. There is an excellent Probiotic made for goats sold at Tractor Supply. My vet approves of it 100% and I use it. You can use a binder--I don't. If you give too much it may cause a little runs but you can adjust it. I use about a scoop to 4 cups feed. It comes with a little scoop and is about $11. The stuff is fantastic and it changes all your bird's demeanor. They get a real jolt and become very lively when you put them on this natural supplement. It helps to build their immunities also. I swear by it. And by the way, everyone, EXCELLENT JOB! I have never seen anything like that. I would have never guessed that was part of a soft egg. I love this forum and I just learned something really important from all of you. Thank you!!!!

Raising chickens is NOT for the faint of heart is it!? So glad to hear your girl is doing well!
