I am so sad.

I lost Miss Meringue Friday. I have two white Silkies. Meringue and Don Benedict (Rooster). They were my favorite. I feel so horrible. I went out at 8 to lock the pen. She was gone. It was not even dark yet. Plus we were all home and had company. My friend smokes so she was outside. In fact we were all in and out. We looked for hours. The next day we found two spots of white feathers right at the tree line and one a few feet into the woods. We did not hear a thing. What would have the guts to come right up to the house with all of us in and out. We never found a body. I have cried and cried.

I feel like crying again when I see poor Don pacing and pacing all day long.

We bought an a fence to go around the coop and run. I have a chicken tractor. It is double fenced. I put a fence inside and outside of the frame of the run. Their tractor is a fortress. But I let them out during the day. I hate to keep them penned up all the time. They enjoy being out so much and never leave the yard. I thought about just putting them to bed earlier but it is hard work chicken herding. So we opted for the fence.

I bought a new Silkie so Don would not be alone. Just brought her home. I will post another thread on for suggestions.

Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry for your loss. Be vigilant! The predator will return and try to breach your security. It now regards your place as a food source. Good luck at protecting the survivors.
