Something on my chicken’s foot

One of my chickens suddenly has “something” on a couple of her toes. It looks like caked on mud(we’ve had a lot of rain” but it is Hard and I’ve soaked it but can’t get it off. How can I find out what it is and what to do? Thank you

You're right.
It looks like caked on mud. Mud Balls.
If you have a helper, that would be best, but if not, you can do this yourself by swaddling her in a towel so you have control of her.
You will need something like a pair of pliers, take care to go slow, firmly, but gently start working on one toe at a time, to crush and break away the mud balls. Your goal is to get it to crumble away, but remember her toe and nail is in there. Don't pull or you risk tearing her skin. Go slow and work on it, they will come off.

Those ARE mud balls that have gotten very large. Just gotta break them off. I have read that you can crush the mud balls with pliers (that's what I use to break up poop that gets stuck to bum feathers). Be careful not to smash the little toes.
