When I went to check on my two 6 week old turkey poults this morning, one was completely missing a wing!! After the initial shock, I saw the small wing bone sticking out and a bit of congealed blood, but the turkey was acting normal....drinking water, eating, running to catch bugs. The two turkeys are in a fully enlcosed chain link dog run about 5'wide x 20' long x 6' tall. Unfortunately, their final coop is not finished yet, so I'd been letting them sleep in the dog run. Apparently, last night they were roosting on the ground in front of the gate. This is the only place where there is an opening as wide as my fist. Something reached in and snapped one of the wings right off. I found the whole wing about 10ft away from the run fully intact.
Tonight, they're locked in the tool shed with water and food.
My question is, what could have done this?! and how should I take care of this turkey who seems to be perfectly fine, except it's missing a wing. It's doing everything it did yesterday, but minus a wing.
Thanks for your advice.
Also, I live in San Diego CA in the mountains near the Mexico border.
