We have 4 broody 1 year old hens. Their eggs started hatching about 4 weeks ago.
First their were just the 2. Both belonged to my Silkie.
A week later they started hatching about 1 a day. then nothing.
One on the 19th. one on the 20th born deformed and now 2 today. needless to say we have 3 brooders going because of the different sizes and ages.
The chicks in the middle brooder seem to be BALDING, itchy, scratching themselves except for the one - which is also a different "pattern" then the rest. and the one born the 19th.
First it was just 2 on the top of their wing joints, so I thought they were being pecked.
But now it is 6 out of 8 of them and they seem to be balding on their backs. No blood.
also the 2 born today seem to be having trouble surviving. one pants the other has a rounded belly and flaps her wings constantly. She cant seem to get warm, even with the heat lamp so close to her.
