Hope someone can help. Checked temperature because didn't see red light blinking. Thermometer says 87 and I believe it, as eggs feel cool and red light is not blinking. Eggs were put in Saturday. Can I save them? Might a broody hen be able to? I am wondering if it is the power source, as it feels very cool. Also, am wondering if I should turn off the fan, as it is blowing cool air on the eggs. Thank you for any help you can give.

If you have a broody, that's where i'd put the eggs.

Call GQF and they can overnight you a new unit for the top of the bator. I had to do that once.

Yep X 2.... They will be fine if you get them under broody... That drop in temp for a VERY short time shouldn't have an appreciable affect as it doesn't reflect the INTERNAL temp of the egg.

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt answers and encouragement. I will remember that short drops of temperature are O.K. I don't have a broody hen yet, still a little young.

Unhappily, when I checked the temperature about 1/ 2 hour later, the power source had gone from being too cool, to extreemly hot, and the temperature had shot to 109.7. I turned off the"bater, worrying about setting the house afire and realizing the eggs were gone.....My son came by this am, tried plugging things in again, and within a few minutes the temperature was up to 107.5. He couldn't guess what the matter was. Customer support says they have never heard of such a thing happening, and want me to send it back for evaluation. The warranty was up a few months ago. I used it for three small hatches.

I am feeling sick at heart as these were very special eggs. BBS Orps, and Chanteclers. I am trying to weigh what to do. They say they may charge me, and may not. And it would be about 14 days, plus coming and going.

Meanwhile, the new assembly costs about $66.00, and a power source $16.00 plus shipping.

I wonder if I should order a new 1588. What are your opinions? I need a sad little emotion con right here.

Hi, sorry for your trouble.
Have you tried adjusting the temp yourself? The paperwork explains how to do this.

Are you using a digital thermometer? Have you checked that out perhaps try a different digital.

Are you using an egg turner? Perhaps the motor on that is not working properly.

My last hatch the temps were all over the place. The humidity the same as I didn't watch it as closely as I thought I should. Hatch was 20/23 One each of the three breeds in the incu. Funny how that happened. This was my second hatch with a brand new 1588.

A fluctuation of a degree or two isn't anything to worry about. I have a copy of incu instructions from Practical Poultry on mistakes and how to have a good hatch. I can fax them to anyone who wants them. (please know that you don't have to have a seperate phone line or number to fax. As long as you have long distance on your phone and a fax feature on you printer)

If your certain it's the unit I'd send it back and let them make the repairs. I don't trust myself to make repairs this important.

Wishing you all the best
