Is it safe for song/wild birds to eat layer feed? I'm feeding my flock outside and I've seen bluejays and chickadee's eating the layer feed once in a while. Which surprises me because the berry trees are ripe. My hens love the berry trees! It turns their poop bluish purple.lol. The berries are very safe. They are human edible too, but bitter.

If its unsafe, I'll feed in the run and coop from now on. Thanks.

Since I still have a thriving wild bird population I'm thinking it's okay. I've actually read in magazines one can use chicken feed in a backyard bird feeder to avoid the mess of shells or having sprouts under the feeder.
