Hey yall!

I have finally talked my husband into letting me get chickens. (We agree on everything we do lol) So, next month I will be a new chicken mama. I'm so incredibly happy!

I've done ton of research to see how to raise chicks and all. (I've never been around chickens other than petting zoos.) I am be over preparing, but I did the same thing with my human babies lol.

Do you have any advice on raising baby chicks?

I am ordering them from Hoover's Hatchery and they will be mailed. This concerns me a lot. I'm expecting to probably lose some during their travels. I'm about 18 hours away from the Hatchery so it will be a long ride for the babies. Do they put feed in the box with the chicks for the travel?

Anyways, sorry for the long message. I'm just so excited!!!

How much fun is that! No they don't feed the chicks. Something amazing about chicks is that they still have their yolk sac inside them and they can last for three days without food. You must turn on your brooder making sure it is working right . Call your post office and let them know when your order is coming. Pick them up immediately . When you get them home take Each chick stick their beak into the water and show them where it is. Glad you have done some homework and joined BYC. Lots of experience here.

7 Calico Princess
2 Sapphire Olive Eggers
1 White Leghorn Rooster

I picked the calico princess hens 1) because they are gorgeous and 2) they are said to be very docile and great egg layers.

My daughter picked the sapphire olive Eggers because they lay green eggs lol.

And I've always wanted a leghorn rooster....named Foghorn of course lol.

My plan is to have them for the eggs for food and for hatching eggs.
