ok so im getting two ducklings and everyone is telling me when the ducks are older their gonna me soo mean and attack is this true i need to know for revenge lol

The "everyone" telling you mean duck stories . . . . do they have ducks?

Sometimes drakes will get full of themselves and nip at people. They are just trying to be boss. Picking them up, turning them on their backs for a while generally tells them to back off, that you are the boss. And many, many times, drakes are just fine and don't give anyone a hard time.

Ducks (the girls) may give you a pinch if they are setting on a pile of eggs trying to hatch them, and you reach under them. Well of course they do, they are being protective!

But a 100% guarantee of a mean duck? Get real.

Would these be the same people that tell you there has to be a rooster around to get eggs? Or maybe the ones that say country people are stupid and they have no teeth? How about all pit bulls are vicious dogs, the whole breed should be extinct?

Know it alls generally have no idea what they're talking about.

Ducks are not mean and revengeful creatures in the slightest!
They are very loving and loyal pets and when treated with the proper respect, will return the favor!
Yes, male ducks (drakes) can sometimes be aggressive , but that is not always the case.
I have a feeling that the people who have been spreading these stories are not duck owners.
Either that or they have never had a TRUE experience of raising a duck properly!

Revenge on who?

You want a mean duck to attack someone in revenge? Or, you want to prepare how you will revenge against a mean duck?

Either way, in my opinion, doing *anything* for revenge isn't a good reason to do something - especially if it involves animals.

I do agree with the does the "everyone" even have ducks? way to sweeping of a statement... it's like saying all dogs are nasty, all cats and so forth of coarse there will always be some that are but on the whole, no.

So what kind of ducks are you getting?

I bought my two babies from tractor supply about two years ago, and they never have been mean towards me. The drake is very protective and does not like my dogs, so I keep them separate and they never have play time together. But that's a hormone driven drake for you. I spend time with mine everyday and I can even pick them up and love on them. They both have their own personality, it's so fun. They even know their names! If you have the desire to raise ducks and have the time to spend with them you will fall in love just as the rest of us have. Keep us updated on your babies!
