I feel soooooooooo guilty....sooooooooooo guilty!!!!

I put my chicks out in the coop for the last three nights and days. They have done sooooooooo well. We knew it was going to get hot so dh opened up the side of it so it could be open during the day and the window is open too.

We didn't know today was going to go over 100 here in the Sac area.

My poor girls were in bad shape. I went out to check on them and they were panting horribly. They were running to me as to say help mommy.

I ended up finding a fan and i put that in there and some of them seem alot better. There were a few that still were panting and i've brought them in the house.

The next couple of days are going to be this hot again. They will be coming back in the house. They are not going to be happy about that i'm sure after having all that space.

Dh is going to rig a box fan over a window to get the air circulating in there when they go back.

Anyway today i wonder why did i do this? Why did i add the stress of more living creatures that i have to care for??

Oh and my bunny got way over heated too. I feel like a horrible animal owner right now. Bunny is fine and in the house now......

Awwww, dont feel too bad. We all will have to face it sooner or later....IF it ever warms up here in Indiana! We are still in the LOW 40's at night UGH!
In our coops, we have several fans, and a roof vent.It does get quite warm in there...just make sure they have plenty water. Freeze a soda bottle of water...and put it in thier waterer. Will keep it nnice and cool for a few hours. Your not a bad animal mommy....you are a great one...to be so concerned. Some ( not the people on here) just dont care about thier outside pets...and its soo sad.

Thank you Deb....that makes me feel a little better!

They are doing better. Their breathing is back to normal. A few had their wings hanging down today and that really scared me. I don't know if it is a sign of distress but it sure looked like it. I got those inside right away. My two EE were panting and laying down....they came in too.

I have some bottles in the freezer getting ready for tomorrow.

Dh is out there again trying to make it better for the girls. I'm nervous because tomorrow i will be gone most of the morning. I hope they do ok til i get back.

I lived in Sac for two years.... I am sorry about the heat I really do not miss it at all. I am glad your babies are doing better. You are a good mommy..

I have lived here for about 13 years and i can't remember it getting this hot this early before. It's the only thing i don't like about this area.

Thank you!!

its oteen like 80s-90s today... we watered the grass and let everyone out and they were panting but loved being in the wet grass! just be dure to let them roam the yard and have water always avaliabble

Just the fact that you care is a sign that you are a good animal mom

they know you care.

I had my little chicks outside in a make-shift pen and they almost became lunch to a neighbors cat! So I lucked out too! Won't leave them alone again....whew!

We try our very best with all good intentions. don't beat yourself up. Just love 'em.

That's the problem we don't have the run done yet.....so they had to stay in the coop. They cannot roam because of my cat, neighbor cats and dogs.

I can't wait til i can let them play in the grass and water.

Speaking of cats....

My dh used chicken wire on the outside of the nests so we can keep the wall open to clean out. Well i went to check on them and the chicks had their heads sticking out like two inches. The cat was on the prowl and thank God i was right there. I closed up the nests and the girls had to go to bed. Cat almost had little chicken head appetizers.

These birds are going to be the death of dh and me.
