I took it ouf of the nest box as it was so wide open you could see almost but not quite the whole body of the chick and its moving!...she has hatched 3 so far, and was sitting on 4 more...total 7....this baby is still moving 30mins later. its still in the membrance, I didnt know what to do, leave it in the nest...but afraid others would pick at it, since its open....

so I brought it in and I wrapped the chick in saran wrap to keep the memebrance wet ....

is there a chance? is this possible????

HELP!!!!!

TKS

can you hold it together and put wax on the break, use the wax as a glue?

I may be totally off base but I think that the saran wrap might suffocate it (???) Aren't egg shells porous? Is the membrane? I am not sure... but saran wrap certainly isn't. I hope someone who knows will chime in here. But if it was me I don't think I'd wrap it in plastic wrap. Good luck!!!

Okay first question is it ready to hatch like hatch date, you said hen hatched 3 already. My hen did the same thing except she pecked the surround egg shell off, they got off nest with 2 other babies. Found poor thing ice cold and only surrounded by membrane. Well to make a long story short, I ran with the ice cold baby back into the house, (mind you, hen pecked shell off so it was also bleeding and probally didn't get all yolk.) put it under heat lamp in a damp wash clothe and it lived and is thriving and a happy little chick. I would just help it out and put in brooder to give it a better chance.

No, when I said it cracked open I mean IT CRACKED OPEN....I could see the whole chick except the lower legs, and the chick was moving...I had wrapped the eggs lower 1/2 in saran to keep everything intact and moist....incase the chick made it...It was worth a try....but I had left the part where the face was open .....

It didnt make it, I didnt think it would it was worth a try though....she is sitting on the last two in the nest...and I have four babies in the house...they kept getting out of the main coop, and I would find them in the run loose...and it started to rain hard...I was afraid they would drown as mama couldnt put them back into the coop, the coop is about 1' off the ground.

thanks all...
