I have a whole container of Knudsen's Fat Free Sour Cream that just expired. It's not even opened yet. Do you think it's ok to give it to the chickens?? Does anyone have an opinion on this? I was going to set the whole container in the outside run. Just didn't know ...... Thanks!!

I don't know about the sour cream, but I give mine cottage cheese and yogurt, which they love. The only problem I've had was that my Houdan stuck all her head feathers into the bowl with the yogurt, and then dirt, feathers and shavings stuck to her the yogurt on her head. After a "kitchen salon" visit to the sink with some baby shampoo, she recovered. So if you have any birds with heavily feathered heads (silkies, for instance) keep that in mind !

Heck I've eaten it after the sell by date....

What happens to sour cream anyway? Does it get MORE sour?

The date on your sour cream container is probably a "best sell by date". If you open it, stir it and smell it, you may find that it is okay.

I didn't mean "is it ok" because of the date. Once I went back and read my post I can see how it sounded that way.

I meant is it ok mainly because it has allot of calcium. It also has 25 ml sodium per 2 tablespoons. Thanks everyone. I think it will be ok. I'm gonna just put the whole container in the outside run. I'm sure it's gonna be a mess but it should be entertaining:D

Gottcha!... Your question is
can I feed my chickens fat free sour cream?

It should be fine in moderation.
