i have found the article and posts on this topic very helpful. Alice is a 4 year old Australorp and was fading for a few days. I brought her in last night and kept her in a heated room in a crate. This morning I noticed a bad smell I couldn't identify, but then I read a post which said sauerkraut. Exactly! When I picked her up I noticed her crop was filled with fluid. When I tilted her, she threw up darkish liquid which also had grass and feathers. I administered some anti fungal. Since it sunny today, I took her back outside. She came out of the crate and drank a lot of water.

My questions include: should I keep her inside again tonight? What, if anything, should I feed her? There also seems to be disagreement on the board about massaging the crop or not. Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks for any advice.

If her crop feels somewhat empty or empty, feed her layer feed mixed in water and see if she eats it. I suspect she'll eat it. Then back to dry layer feed whenever you want.
Dont give her treats, layer feed only.

She was outside today and drank a lot of water. When I picked her up this evening, she vomited again. I took her in for the night and have given her coconut oil mixed with fungal cream. Any other ideas? I am worried nothing is going down. I don't think she has pooped.

I would keep her in a location where you can conclusively know if she's pooped or not. If anything is presently stuck to her feathers, I would clip or wash it off so you'll know if something fresh has happened. Use an old towel or something you'll absolutely be able to see any excrement on if you have a crate she can stay in, especially overnight. Then you'll know if she's got any kind of emptying overnight like she should.

Here's an excellent article about all things crop related so you can evaluate where she's at and what the most effective treatment is for her current condition.
