In the Brooder

Hi there, I just recently got 15 Peking ducklings and I have some questions/hoping for some advice.

We’re thinking about moving the brooder to our screened in back porch since it has better airflow but it’s been brutal out and today it was 95 degrees on the porch.

Is this going to be too hot for them? They’re going to have access to water throughout the day but my husband and I work all day so I’m worried that they’ll overheat while we’re gone.

How are they doing? I would see how he do on a day you can watch them. At those temperatures they probably don't need any extra heat and can go right out to the shed or coop.

They’re actually doing really well, they’re 2 1/2 weeks old now and we’re ready to put them in their run this weekend. Having them on the back porch worked well, they have way better airflow out there so it doesn’t stink as bad. They go through water like crazy though, I put 2 gallons out there and by the time I get home it’s all gone. Do you have any suggestions on a better watering system for the brooder? I think they’re mostly just splashing it out. Right now they just have a regular chick waterer with legs.

I haven't found any waterer that stays full with ducks around. Once they get past that first week they start to get rowdy.
