I just recently moved to the Kingsville/Corpus Christi area! I have been raising chickens for about a year now. Have several different kinds including silkies, polish, seabrights, ameracaunas, houdans, millie fleurs, and really just a mix of everything! I have several chicks right now just beginning to prove to me that they are definitely roosters! It would be nice to get in touch with the chicken community here! :) AND to get some tips on how y'all cope with the heat and humidity! Anybody in this area?

Hi, welcome to South Texas. I too live in the Corpus Christi Area. As for dealing with the heat and humidity just keep hydrated and wear light colored clothing. How are your chickens dealing with the heat?

They are doing good so far! :) Seem to love their little home. Just wondering when my babies will start laying...they are about 5 months now!

They should start laying around 6 months of age so you only have about one month to go until you have fresh eggs. How many chickens do you have?

YAY! I can't wait! About 35 or so! I have several roosters that I need to find homes for though! :(

That is a lot of chickens. We have about 17 if you include the two Olandsk dwarfs that hatched last week. Try to find them homes on here, there is a whole forum dedicated to buying, selling, and trading. Surely, someone in this area will take them. If not you might, however gruesome it sounds, keep them for the meat.

Ok! Awesome, thanks! I will definitely post. Eeeek, noooo I could never eat my babies though. They are way to sweet and friendly for that!

I got turned at an early age. I used to show goats at the livestock show and one year my grandfather fed me my own goat to prove a point. So now I don't even flinch when thinking about those kind of things. It will happen to most of our chickens eventually. They will go from egg layers to dinner.

How terrible, my babies will stay my babies. I could never think about eating my chickens for dinner. But I know lots of people do it! Guess my chickens just got lucky to have an owner like me. Haha!
