Ok so I live in FL. And see in the news all the time all the white stuff the north has been getting. I took a trip up to Wisconsin around New Years and the day we left it was -13. I got a taste of it but I use some questions for your northerners, how do you keep your chickens warm in those temps?! Sorry if that's a dumb question but in Florida my coop is mostly open not insulated but has shelter from the rain an that's all we need! So just wondering, because I wouldn't know, I just was thinking how cold it was in the house in Wisconsin with the heat on, was wondering if a heat lamp would be enough?

Chickens don't need heat in the north, and most people don't provide any. In the coldest climates they may insulate. The real danger in the north is frostbite from humidity buildup, so ventilating their coop well is essential. Chickens tolerate northern cold better than they do our heat. Technically 100 degrees can be lethal to a chicken. I haven't lost one to heat yet, but mine have a good, constant breezze (fan all summer, plus the coop is like a wind tunnel,) plenty of water and shade, and on the worst days, I wet down the soil and coop with the hose.
