Space for Silvers question.

I bought a beautiful full grown male silver pheasant this weekend. I will not be breeding this guy, do to the fact that he has a couple of twisted toes so he will be in a pen by himself. Not to mention that I have enough birds but have always wanted one. My question is what size pen could I put him in? I have a open pen that is @ 9'L x 8'W x 8'H that is attached right next to my golden pen and I was hoping that, that would be enough space to put him in. I really do not want to build another pen if I do not have to. I know bigger is better but since he will be by himself is this enough room for him with out being cruel?

That is plenty big enough for him and 2 hens.so why not breed him?

I am so glad to hear that the open pen will be big enough for him.
I was told by the guy I bought him from that his toes were twisted from walking on wire as a chick and not from a genetic stand point. I have never dealt with this particular breeder before and I really could not tell you if he was just telling me what I wanted to hear so I would take the bird. He was going to put him down because no one wanted him because of that. I have heard from others that twisted toes were a good indicator that birds were too inbred. So I just decided to not take the chance of breeding him. If the inbreeding thing is not true could someone let me know?

I don't think the wire twisted his toes.It's usually signs of inbreeding.It shouldn't effect his breeding unless they are really bad.He can be bred as long as the hens aren't related to him.Just remember to ask for their lineage when you purchase birds,and keep records of what birds you got where.
