Really? The space heater gets a bad review because it will start a fire if you put a pillow on it? Don't the all?

As a firemen this review is a scary sign...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That's why I always read the individual reviews and not necessarily pay as much attention to the star ratings.

Geez.

Modern space heaters are awfully safe as such things go. Overheat and tipping shut-offs, etc. But you do have to read the directions.

I used a Coleman 533 for heat this last winter. Very happy with it. However, I keep an extinguisher very handy, keep it far away from things, and watch it very carefully. I also live in a wreck of a trailer that's very drafty, so little worries about CO. And I never run it when I'm not right there.

It says right on the packaging or in the little insert that's in the box not to place it near any bedding, carpet, etc. Or, at least the last three or four space heaters did. I think even one heater had it printed right on the heater itself.

I did wake up one night to find one space heater emitting a lot of smoke. Luckily, nothing else happened and I was able to unplug it in time. It was just old and needed replacement. That one didn't have a thermostat or any safety features like automatic shutoff or anything, though.
