How many chickens can a coop that is 8ft long, 4 deep and 4 high hold comfortably?
We are planning for a bigger and better coop!! yay!!!

4 sq feet for coop space and 10sq ft of run space per bird (although I have less coop space, that is the recommended amount).

So, 32 sq feet so 8 birds according to standards!

I think 3-4 sq. feet is the rule of thumb. 3 sq ft per bird is fine if you have a run for them or they free range. Smaller breeds should have no problem as well. My birds are never in the coop except over night, and they tend to sit on the roost, hardly using the floor space, except in the mornings before I let them out. I never see any squabbles or pecking going on.

Mine would only be in at night...they free range around my yard all day...when they can't be in the yard, they have their own fenced area that is 16x10.
