Does anyone know where I can find information on speckled egg genetics? I have two olive Eggers that lay the most beautiful green speckled eggs an I want to continue this trait if I can. See attached egg color wheel photo. The two obviously speckled green eggs are what I am talking about. I am looking into getting a marans rooster. Would that up my chances if he fertilizer these hens?

Not sure about the genetics. As far as breeds, Marans can lay lightly speckled, Welsummer often do. Silverudd's Blue lay green that are often speckled as well. 🙂

A Welsummer Roo crosses with a pure blue egg layer should give offspring with speckled green eggs, and a pure blue breed roo crossed with a Welsummer hen should as well. If they are not pure blue (like an EE), it will be about 50-50.

So pretty! I’d love to have a speckled green egg-layer someday. One of my Wyandottes lays eggs with some speckling on them. I got her from a local feed store, so a hatchery chick. Not sure if that’s a typical Wyandotte trait :idunno .
