I've been getting "speckled" eggs from a couple of my hens. I've heard conflicting things on if the speckles are blood or not. Any thoughts? They are always spots, no smears. They show up more when wet and do wash off with some scrubbing. I'll try to show a picture. Thanks.

Usually when I've seen blood on the eggs of a new layer, it's been a smear and it looks red. If there's any blood at all, it's usually only the first egg or maybe the second, also, in a rare case. Blood washes off easily, with just a wipe in plain water.

Brown speckles are usually normal egg coloring. The brown pigment that you see on eggs is a layer that's applied to the outside. Getting an egg wet can change the way the pigment color looks. You can also scrape it off, if you work at it. It sounds like maybe you just have speckled eggs.

Thanks for the input. I didn't think too much of it until I noticed they washed off. I appreciate the responses.
