My friend gave me 2 babies that were supposed to be Speckled Sussex but they were mixed in with the welsummers so I think I got one of each. They were also supposed to be pullets from Tractor Supply but I think I have a Roo and I'm wondering who is who? They are about 5 weeks old.

They're both Sussex, and a pair. Pullet on the left, rooster on the right.

Easy way to tell Sussex from other similar colored chicks is the leg color. Sussex have white/pink legs, Wellies, Leghorns, etc have yellow. Plus as they feather in, the speckled birds get white on the chest. the other breeds get black if males, salmon if females.

Thanks for that info, have been wondering if the chick in my project breeding is Mottled like the sussex or if it is some other feather pattern that i do not yet know. What you posted makes me think it very well may be a recessive mottled that just now came out.

So I did get 2 Sussex! Thanks. They started to look so different I was worried I had a rooster but my friend said I probably had a welsummer, she hadn't seen them.
Thanks!
