I got a gorgeous Sumatra Blue Splash hen from a friend who has a pen with Blue, Black and two Splash hens (one's now mine! <GRIN>) The two roosters she has in the pen are a very handsome Black and a either a Black or Blue Splash.

She's only 1 year old.

I've had her here at my house in quarantine for almost a week now, I was curious that, assuming she'd been fertilized recently, how long she should be fertile and if I get any eggs is it worth it to put them in the incubator?

I do not have any roosters and cannot in my little town or I would have brought one of those handsome boys home with me as well so this is my one shot if she bothers to lay.

The other thing I wonder about is since I moved her (a 4.5 hour trip from her home) a ways, would this prevent her from laying any eggs at all for the foreseeable future?

Thank you in advance.

Kate

Hens can retain high fertility for 2 weeks, some fertility up to 3 weeks, and occasional fertility up to 4 weeks after mating. You can incubate any eggs she lays - worth a try.

Oh cool! Now hopefully she actually lays an eggs or two in the next week or so. If she lays them they can sit dormant for a week or so and still be ok, right?

So the hen is splash? One rooster is black, what is the other? I assume you mean splash?

splash x black = 100% blue
splash x splash = 100% splash

Also

blue x blue = 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash
blue x splash = 50% blue, 50% splash
blue x black = 50% blue, 50% black
