So I have a pair of Black French Copper Marans, I have recently hatched out 3 sets of their eggs and so far have nearly averaged 2 Splash chicks from each hatch. I was under the impression however that you could not get Splash chicks from Black parents. Is that true?? I'm kind of new to breeding FCMs so I'm just trying to understand a little better how this is possible. Any info would be Much appreciated!!

You're right, thats not possible. Do you have a photo of the parent birds and the chicks?

These are the only pictures I have at the moment I can upload more tomorrow.

hmm I was hoping to see dark blues but they are black. I would have said maybe recessive white but they don't look right for that. Is it possible another male could get access to the hen, specifically a white or paint bird?

No, he is my only Roo and she is my only hen that lays the dark eggs.... and I've only hatched her eggs.. I thought maybe a recessive gene. But like I said I don't know enough to even guess. I forgot I had this picture too of the latest chicks that just hatched today.

I'm not sure if they are related, I got them from a breeder a few counties away. Bought them as a trio and one the hen got taken by a fox. So would that mean they are not splash?
