We recently adopted a disabled hen named Karen into our flock. She has both splay legs and curly toes. A vet designed a physical therapy kit with foam leg braces and special shoes, and we usually exercise her with it three or four times a day.
Earlier this week, I noticed she had a balding wing and a balding underside of leg/thigh area. This wing she flaps around to sort of crutch about, and this leg, since its splayed, often sticks out from underneath her, so I was wondering if friction may have made the feathers come out. About two weeks ago, we realized we might have a rooster when he started raping our disabled hen, so we have separated them. We were worried the feathers may have come out during rape. I put Vicks Vapor rub on her bald areas to discourage her from pecking at it.
Today, I noticed a batch of bald skin is GREEN, and I am very concerned. I saw an old thread suggesting maybe it's a bruise, but that green skin (at least when it's on the breast, although it's not in this case) is related to Deep Pectoral Myopathy which is related to too much exercise. We decided to bring her inside and I washed off her green patch and put some vitamin E oil on it to promote skin healing, although there is no scabbing or evidence of lesion, so I'm not sure what or where the infection is from.
She is eating and drinking and otherwise acting normal, so... Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
