I have earned the reputation of crazy chicken lady at my kids' school because I hatched chicks out there last week, and started another batch this week.
Another teacher at the school hatched some chicks a day or so ago, and one of the chicks has a splayed leg. She'd put some newspaper in the bottom of the cage, and I'm wondering if that was the cause. Anyway, she brought the chick to me, asking if there was anything to be done. I taped it's leg, and recommended she get rid of the newspaper.
Now the chicks are on a wire bottomed cage, which is something I have no experience with. Would you suggest we put some old towels on the bottom for a day or two while the chick recovers, or do you think it's ok?
