Hi! I just finished a rolling hatch of khaki campbell duck eggs and one that hatched yesterday never really got up and around. I thought it was just getting acclimated, but today is not moving much and when I tried putting them in their"bath" aka pan pool this morning, legs were pretty well splayed outside the body and then a little more. I don't see any swelling on the leg joints, but s/he seems comfortable when warm. But also hasn't been accepting food from my have when all the others have. But seems bigger than yesterday so maybe it's eating when I wasn't watching. I do know s/he moves some because they've all been in different parts of their brooder.

I have in a cut down sour cream cup right now with a napkin underneath for comfort and traction. I don't have vet wrap. Is there anything else I can do?

I was taught by a vet just to use masking tape. Cut one piece about three inches long, cut it down the center long way if it is too wide. Have someone hold the chick with its legs in the correct position. Put the tape behind behind his legs, sticking it to him.

Fold the tape forward around both legs, squishing the part between the legs if any sticky part is showing.

I have used this with chicks and ducklings. It is easy to put on and take off without hurting them. Change it at least daily. Keeping it in a cup too, at first anyway, will keep it from falling over.
