I noticed that my 5 week old Lavender Orpington was smushed by the other chicks and developed splayed legs. I made a brace with a small rubberband and a drinking straw. I cut a small hunk of the straw and thredded it through to the middle of the rubbery so it formed two loops on either end for her legs to go through.
She is now 6 weeks and still has on the brace. I noticed that her leg joint to her body looks odd when she lays down and I was curious if it was because she has a brace on her legs keeping them together. So I took it off and her feet still point far out to the sides. So I tried to make her a bigger brace with a bigger rubberband but it was too big to where it did not keep her legs close enough together. So i put the smaller one back on.
My questions are:
How long do I leave her brace on?
Can having the brace on hurt her when she lays down? And not beable to lay down correctly?
Will her legs ever point forwards like normal chicken feet/legs? When she had the brace off she could stand. Her legs were just spread apart and pointing outwards. I just don't want her to get squished again and pop them back out.
Thank you!
