i have 7 Ameraucanas who began laying a few months ago. Their eggs have always been lovely, even toned shades of blue. However, recently their eggs have brownish stains on them that don't wipe off. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Could it be caused by the sudden cold snap we've been experiencing?

It looks like you washed them there. Was their mud or poo on them before the washing? It could be just a blend of dirt and their own natural bloom staining them a bit. My Ameraucanas will have some inconsistencies with their bloom and inkjets toward the end of a lay or at the beginning. Greenish hued eggs are actually brown bloom on a blue shell.

There was poo on them. I wiped them with a paper towel, but that's when I discovered the larger stains.

How old are your birds?
Eggs can get funky when they start slowing production to molt.

Are eggs shells thinner, more porous, rougher than usual,
shell surface difference would 'take stain' more readily.

Have you been feeding anything different,
could change the staining capacity of the poop.

If any of the eggs are greenish at all, that means there is a brown coating component involved in the equation.

Some of the shells have felt rougher than normal. I've been trying to gather the eggs more frequently.
