Sprained neck?

We have a house chicken. Last night, for the first time, one of the dogs tried to play with her and hurt her. The dog didn't bite, but she did that excited feet thing that dogs do and and it looked like she stepped on her neck.

I can't tell a break from a sprain. Ms. Hen is moving, has control of her limbs, eating etc. She can walk but has a hard time keeping her balance. She will hold her head straight and will look to her left, she can turn it all the way around to her back as usual. But she won't turn it to the right, and when she sleeps with her head on her shoulder she ends up tipping over to the right.

It's been less than 24 hours but I'm just trying to get a read on whether she needs anything special to heal like a gentle bandage to support her neck or something.

She's currently in a laundry basket in the sun with shavings, food, electrolytes, and she has a heating pad that she moves on and off of as needed.

I would not try to bandage the neck. Give her some time. If she's able to eat/drink on her own, even better.
Sounds like she's been injured and it will take some time to heal. I would probably give her some Vitamin E (400IU) and B-Complex (1/4 tablet) for a week too.

If you have photos you wish to share that would be great.

This looks extreme but it's how she's sitting when she's relaxed while standing up. When she's falling asleep she tips to the right.

Lol she's looked like this for almost a year! She was in a home with too many large roosters so we took her in, and she's never properly molted 😂

You can roll up a towel and place it against that side when she's in the basket if you feel she needs the support. I've found that most of the time less is more when dealing with injuries. Let them heal at their own pace.

Yes, looks like she was with too many roosters. Glad you took her in. Once she molts she will feather in nicely.

I think you were right, I think it's injury related wry neck. It fits the symptoms anyway. Started on vitamin E and B complex in her food, and some straight Nutri Drench on mealworms. I'll update as soon as something happens.
