Hi, I have a 6 month old Barred Cochin Bantam who was trying to fly over the fence into our paddock when she got caught in the fencing. I think she panicked and twisted around in an effort to free herself. I noticed she was limping (but was able to run from me) so I brought her inside. I have her in a freshly bedded brooder house with a heat lamp, fresh water and food. She is eating and drinking and is active. I noticed quite a bit of swelling on her right leg, down by her foot. I have attached pictures. The first being the right, second is the left. I did look for bumble foot and didn’t notice anything off, I think the swelling is from her struggling to get free. Is there anything anyone would recommend to treat this? Is she okay by herself or does she need a companion? I’ve been giving her treats (not a lot) to help her feel more comfortable down there by herself. Also, since she’s used to being out, is the heat lamp going to make the transition from inside to outside when its time difficult for her? Any advice you can offer would be wonderful!!
Thank you in advance.

Separating her from the flock often induces stress, which can subsequently influence how well her injuries heal - it may be best to instead of keeping her inside, move her back out with the flock, but set up a small pen area so her movement can be reduced.

The best treatment administered for a leg is injury is rest, reducing movement, and cushioning the bottom of her pen with plenty of bedding. Additionally, B vitamins can be given to support proper bone health. If you want to go further out of your way, a simple ten-minute soak in Epsom salts may also prove beneficial.
