This is a picture of Moa my Silkie Roo and his Frizzled Girls. For any of you wondering if you should get a rooster, here is the reason. I took 6 shots and you can see how he is on the lookout. He was on alert in each photo. This is a wonderful boy and the best daddy ever. He has finished raising several broods when the mom got tired of them.

What a nice looking flock! They are lovely. I hear a lot today about people crossing frizzles and silkies, also frizzles and cochins, and silkies and cochins, frizzles and cochins. Why is that?

If you cross a silkie and a frizzle........Do you have some that show characteristics of both breeds? And....Do you still have an occassional chick to hatch from this mixing that still looks strong silkie, or strong frizzle. I am just curious as to what the litter of chicks will look like as adult birds.

Sooner, These birds are frizzled Cochin/Silkie crosses. They are being called Sizzles. They have all the Characteristics of the Silkie but they have regular feathers not Silkie feathers and they are Frizzled. When you breed like I am, the Sizzle to the Silkie, you can expect regular smooth feathered, regular silkie feathered and Frizzled feathers in both Silkie and hard feathers. So far the Frizzled birds with Silkie Feathers are not very nearly as good looking as the hard feathered one. I am trying to breed out the Cochin traits, ie; Red faces, wattles and combs, yellow legs and beaks. So far they are doing very well. Combs are coming in blueish, they have 5 toes, Blue Ear Lobes, Beards and Crests and balck skin with ash legs. I am trying to eliminate the black from the tails with a new buff male. Moa will still be here but he may have fewer girls to watch over.

Thanks for the compliments.

Thanks Jaynie, On second looks and closer inspection, I can see the characteristics of the hard feathering and the silkie look. Thanks for sharing with me about what Sizzles are! I understand a little better now. They are wonderful birds!!! Keep up your hard work, you are producing some nice Sizzles!

P.S. What is the cutie in the avatar? Sizzle too?

Sooner, Thanks the one in the avatar is Fancy Pants, she is a splash Sizzle and they are really nice. My splash girls are bearded while the buff are not. It makes for more fluff. These guys are really fun and I have been entertained trying to figure it all out.

I love the picture Jaynie. I can't wait for my eggs to hatch to see what I get. I wish there had been a splash in there. Maybe next time. But I am very excited!!!! Tell me this, if the eggs say black silkie, is there still a chance of being a sizzle? How are you marking them? and what did the number stand for. Just curious. I may need to find a way to mark my eggs. I did get to put 3 in with this batch! So I may have some BB Red OEGB babies too. Who knows. I finally got the temp stable and I am trying to get the humidity down. I put a little water in the bottom and I guess I should not have. It is pretty humid here right now. I dried some out and the humidity is down to 58% and hopefully going down more. At least I know I wont have any trouble getting the humidity up later on. My DH saw the pics of what the babies could look like and he is excited too. And my MIL wants some if I get extra! So I am spreading the love of chickens. I may have to get some of those splash eggs later on!!
